Narnia: Prince Caspian

Narnia is back as the sequel to the first film comes alive on screen with a deliverance of swashbuckling wonder. With stars on the peak of fame (Warwick Davis, for example), and beautiful, jaw-dropping newcomers (Ben Barnes, for example), The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian surely lives up to the first film, possibly outgoing it.

“The characters of C.S. Lewis’s timeless fantasy come to life once again in this newest installment of the “Chronicles of Narnia” series, in which the Pevensie siblings are magically transported back from England to the world of Narnia, where a thrilling, perilous new adventure and an even greater test of their faith and courage awaits them.

One year after the incredible events of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” the Kings and Queens of Narnia find themselves back in that faraway wondrous realm, only to discover that more than 1300 years have passed in Narnian time. During their absence, the Golden Age of Narnia has become extinct, Narnia has been conquered by the Telmarines and is now under the control of the evil King Miraz, who rules the land without mercy.

The four children will soon meet an intriguing new character: Narnia’s rightful heir to the throne, the young Prince Caspian, who has been forced into hiding as his uncle Miraz plots to kill him in order to place his own newborn son on the throne. With the help of the kindly dwarf, a courageous talking mouse named Reepicheep, a badger named Trufflehunter and a Black Dwarf, Nikabrik, the Narnians, led by the mighty knights Peter and Caspian, embark on a remarkable journey to find Aslan, rescue Narnia from Miraz’s tyrannical hold, and restore magic and glory to the land.” (Synopsis by JoBlo)

I was struck with awe and wonder throughout my Narnian experience. The cast was stunning, the humour was up to a tee, the screenplay adaptation was impeccable, and the entire film made the highlight of my week. With the new Narnia movie, we have, on our hands, what could possibly be the next Lord of the Rings.

The shockingly gorgeous new actor we have with us in Narnia is none other than Ben Barnes, who played the young Dunstan Thorne in the feature film, Stardust. Barnes delivered a sweeping performance, worthy of a standing-ovation. The Brit came as Prince Caspian, the title role in the film, a role he describes as part of his world when he was eight-years-old.

One aspect of the film that was added to the story was the romance between Caspian and Susan Pevensie. Although few viewers found the romance “iffy,” it added a charming new view to the film. And, judging by the reaction of many girls and young women, so did Barnes.

Overall, this film had a great amount of action, the right amount of humour, and everything we need to create the perfect film. In senses, the film was like a Monet painting.

Narnia: Prince Caspian is excellence.
